From our distinctive cottages within walking distance of the pretty towns of Windermere and Ambleside, guests can explore many of the Lake District's outstanding sights and locations. Dove Cottage, Wordsworth's home during most of his creative period, and the Wordsworth Museum are close by. Whilst in Grasmere, why not visit the famous Gingerbread shop? Grizedale Forrest has walks and mountain bike trails to suit all levels plus an amazing 'GoApe' activity complex. The Aquarium of the Lakes lies only a couple of miles beyond on the shores of Lake Windermere. Beatrix Potter World is in Bowness and Hill Top Farm, where she created many of her children's stories, is also in nearby Hawkeshead. You can explore the views of Windermere from the lake itself with Lake Cruises, between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. Holker Hall & Gardens, a handsome neo-Elizabethan mansion and home to the Lakeland Motor Museum, are only a short distance away and offer magnificent views over Morecambe Bay. Other attractions nearby include Leven Hall & Gardens, the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway, South Lakes Wild Animal Park, the tranquil Langdale Valley and Muncaster Castle, to name but a few. Breath taking views and a huge choice of walks and cycle routes start at the front door. Water sports, horse riding and golf facilities are all within easy reach, and you'll find wonderful restaurants, pubs, cinemas, shops, cafes, etc only five minutes away on foot. Families, couples and pets are all very welcome at Lakeland Escapes. Compared to the facilities and cost of local hotels and B&Bs, we feel sure you'll be pleasantly surprised at our prices. Mr Ollivent and family, guests at Under Rigg Cottage, April 2009 What's New Happy New Year to all of our guests
Many people have kindly contacted us regarding Under Rigg Cottage, Ambleside and the dreadful flooding which hit much of the village in Nov. We have been badly effected, but the good news is refurbishment is well underway and a completely new Under Rigg should be up and running by end of Feb. The Undercroft has also been redecorated this winter, so we are ready for a warm sunny 2010!! Why not treat yourself to a break?.....main roads are fully open and the snow on the hills is truly beautiful. Weekends and midweek breaks available at very competitive prices. Our cottages are of the highest standard with all home comforts and so much more than a B+B or hotel room. For a really special treat why not take advantage of our 'in house chef'? Menu flexible - champagne and canapes, main course and desert all freshly prepared and served in the cottage with a real personal touch.Call Alison on 07710 236119 or email: alison@lakelandescapes.co.uk |
